Trey says: Cyber in ICS

Hello WhiskeyJack,

Thank you for your response. I will wait and listen to Ep 5 when it comes out. It feels like I am cheating if I do otherwise.

After which, I may consider recording an episode, though I am fairly certain that me blathering on about IEC 62443 and engineering grade solutions to cyber problems would probably put 90% of the audiance to sleep while the remaining 10% would be screaming into their media player how incredibly wrong I am.

Though... THAT might inspire some of them to record a rebuttal episode! Hmmmm.... :)

Hello Whiskeyjack,

Thank you for posting this series. I remember learning about electronics back in the '70s & '80s. I stumbled on some books about ladder logic, and building my first relay based "Holding circuit" blew my mind! What I learned playing with relays and building alarm systems became a foundation on which I have built throughout my career.

For the last few years, I have been researching ICS & OT, primarily from a cybersecurity perspective.

Keep up the fantastic work!

I am glad that you like the series so far. Episode 1 focuses on the historical relay hardware which preceded PLCs, and from episode 2 and onward I discuss more about the software of PLCs themselves.

You mention cybersecurity. In episode 5, which is HPR4748, I address this issue from the perspective of whether it constitutes a safety issue. You may find that episode interesting.

In episodes 7 and 8, which are not posted yet, I cover more issues relating to PCs in industry.

If you have anything to say about cybersecurity in relation to industrial applications, then I suspect that quite a few listeners would be interested in what you have to say on the subject. You should perhaps think about doing an episode on it. It's not a subject that I think I know enough about from a practical perspective to record an episode about it myself.

@hpr

I have listened ahead, and this is a great subject. 😁😁
